What did we do for the last year?
Read the headlines with certain dread
Drown in now well-founded fears
Doom scroll all day and bake some bread

Time stood still, it flew past us
Now, we sigh with some relief
All that fury, all that fuss,
And still a new commander in chief

Did you hear what that man said today?
Neither did I. Isn't it great?

One square at a time at nine

 So we all heard a little Queen
The most powerful piece on the board
I thought I would follow up
With who she's fighting for

There are patterns, at nine

Play it soft or even loud
Tonight's songs are about a crowd
The next hour, I think that I
Will play some tunes about the sky

This concludes the first week of 2021, at nine

It started with more plague
Then a coup mid-week
It's ended with someone
Unable to tweet

On to better things, at nine

Jeeeeeeze, I'm glad that's over
I'm sure you are as well
Amazing how those twelve months
Were a never-ending hell
And sure, there were some bright spots
And there'll be crap this year
I just glad we made it
I'm happy we're still here
