Many think it's over
But it just started yesterday
And as I missed the first night
Then tonight it's what I'll play
Many think it's over
But it just started yesterday
And as I missed the first night
Then tonight it's what I'll play
Light another candle
Make the world a little brighter
Pull your loved ones near
Hold them a little tighter
It's dark and we need fire
So bring matches or lighter
Despair if far too easy
Together, we can fight her
Look at that; it's getting cold
That is to be expected
So there is snow and all of that
And everyone's affected
Has it really been two decades?
I don't feel all that old
But I've found myself again
That does things, truth be told
Maybe youth is overrated
Years not things to detest
It means that I am still alive
In the end, the only test
The man waved at the crowded street
Many of them all waved back
People seemed pleased to be there
And yet, looking back
Somebody had other plans
For the nation to see
When those shots rang out that day
We were stained with history
A double-negative, in English,
Is a positive they say
A double-positive, in French,
Is what we call Yé-yé
An arctic front due this weekend
Things will be getting colder
I thought I'd warm it up a bit
With Brazilian bossa-nova
Yes, I've been a way a bit
How long has it been?
Either way, I'm back again
Plus, it's Halloween
I was here when it started
This was the home I chose
I watched while founders parted
The drama comes and goes
But throughout the many years
I've sent my little rhymes
And for all the laughter and tears
You have to say we had good times
When it all at last implodes
Hopefully, we'll stay friends
Even if we pick different roads
You'll have to tell me how ends
So blow a kiss, a great big mwah
It's not adeiu, just au revoir
Has it really been that long?
The fifty-plus have found me
The gray and the extra weight
And a meteorologist knee
This weekend brings us a new moon
Plant those seeds and make those plans!
Give the house a nice, deep clean
Or skip all that and join the dance
Tonight we celebrate a death
The pharaoh's army or just one man
But, anyway you slice it
It means we'll eat some lamb
We made it to Friday!
We're all still alive
And what else has survived?
These old 45s.
Every tour for every band
Has its own peculiar quirks
I missed it, so covers
Will have to do. That works.
Things got kinda wonky
When they took our cubes apart
The layout of an office
Is a long-forgotten art
Flowers come in many forms
A prom corsage, a bride's bouquet
So, what better could bloom
On a nice, early spring day?
Another week has passed us by
And nothing too stupendous
But tomorrow's the day for knives
Cry, "Sic semper tyrannis!"
The news is coming too quickly
We're all unsure and unsteady
Two weeks ago, it was snowing
How can it be March already?
I kind of miss my teen-aged years
The awkwardness and pimples
Or, maybe, I only miss
When things were much more simple
Negative numbers
Are not meant for temperatures
Final insult? Snow
And why? you may ask
Having such a cold Wednesday
After such warm days
Saint Valentine died in 269 AD
Patron saint of love and matrimony
But also beekeepers and epilepsy
For why that is, don't look at me
We've only started February
And I don't know if it's just me
But the last month
Was more than enough
Things have been way to far busy
The new moon on Wednesday
Starts the year of wooden snake
Fresh for brand new triumphs,
And room for new mistakes
Normally, we we would go protest
We'd march in the streets and we'd sing
But we're all getting old
And it's terribly cold
So for now, we'll just do this thing
The sun is so much brighter
When we finally leave the cave
The shadows were nothing but dreams
We're going to miss you, Dave
We worked from home two days this week
To keep us safe from harm
And, while that is great and all,
I just wish it was warm
Two weeks were interrupted
By a couple holidays
They didn't feel special
They were just Wednesdays
And with all that's said and done
At least a Friday night has come
