It snowed here, where it ought not snow
The week was filled with wind and cold
And other worries, don't ya know?
Like who would be the next to fold
Of course, I'll talk about it more
This topic, sadly, bears much weight.
But who knows what the night has in store?
And as always, starts at eight

After centuries of bickering, labor disputes, murder conspiracies and
last year’s dodgeball carnage at the hands of Keebler terrorists, Santa
Claus Enterprises LLC has announced plans to downsize its massive North
Pole operations and eliminate 5000 essential staff positions before the
2005 holiday season.
The plan not only involves an elf-power
reduction, but SCE has filed plans with the SEC to sell roughly half the
enterprise to Target Stores, LLC, based in Minneapolis.
Although
no formal reason was given at a press conference Saturday, research
analysts have long contended that a potent cocktail of corporate
weaknesses has poisoned the once-pristine SCE name worldwide.
The most commonly heard gripe is that SCE can’t hold a candle to new
competition—-namely Target and Wal- Mart—-and their superior global
logistics and distribution networks.
“One man and a sleigh
flying around like hell one night a year can’t match the distribution
muscle these global issues wield,” said Russell B. Humburgh of Goldman
Sachs. “If you can’t beat them, go for the bloody red carnage. And that
works well with Target’s overall branding strategy.”
Humburgh
also cites Santa’s free distribution network has been doomed from the
dawn of time. Lack of revenue means antiquated infrastructure and
transport systems.
Logistics aside, SCE’s marketing black hole also
is a concern. There is no Santa website, although Wal-Mart, Target, Best
Buy and other traditional retailers are available 24 hours a day to
starry-eyed, Playstation-addicted tots. And while Santa is rarely if
ever seen, these companies’ smiley faces, bulls eyes and
fluorescent price tags are pasted on anything that moves.
“Where is SCE’s public relations staff?” roared Humburgh. “They’ve got
no snappy logo or brand image. Where’s the ho-ho bling-bling?”
Santa T. Claus, SCE chairman, may reap up to $1.4 billion from the
Target transaction. Rumor has it that the transaction calls for the
painting of a gigantic red target over the North Pole, visible from
outer space.
Spokespeople from both sides have denied this rumor.
