See what you missed at nine!

Next weekend is the new year
So, I'm going back a week
To my longest winter night set
With cigar box guitars to hear
(Tying loose ends, so to speak)
Because I hadn't played it yet.

Christmas party

We had our holiday party over at the club tonight and here's the hour I played.

Saturday, December 14, 2013

Mash-ups at nine!

Tomorrow's a marathon, Bring lots of cash.
Tonight, it's playlist that's all full of mash.

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Bring the thermals at nine

People are slipping and sliding
No cars can get any traction
The weather is quickly dividing
The spectators from all the action.
The weathermen predicted freezing
The weathermen predicted ice
The children must find it all pleasing
The schools are closed. Oh, how nice!

Saturday, November 30, 2013

A feast! At nine!

Oh, but there's so much food
I hope you brought your appetite
Our hunger cannot withstand
The strength of every dish
We'll lick them clean until they're reflective
Why, with every menu you could wish
From every culture and land
You have to try at least a bite
To not do so would be rude!

Saturday, November 23, 2013

We've got a thing at nine

I had to work and could not see
The hallowed events held downtown
To...celebrate? Jack Kennedy
And when Lee Harvey shot him down

But let me say, our motives now
Are nothing, if not of the purist
Type of grief. And so we vow
Not to fleece any poor tourist.

I'm sure you know these words are true:
"You can't say Dallas doesn't love you."

Saturday, November 16, 2013

Rockin' girls at nine!

Tonight's show has a dearth of cock
We're going to play some girls who rock.

Saturday, November 2, 2013

This will make more sense after 8.

We don't know where it's going
We can't imagine where it's been
Pushed along the desert sky
By western blowing winds
We talk about it personally
We feel it all together
I'm so glad we had this time
To talk. And now, the weather!

An hour of Halloween (Velvet style)

Me and Cecil want to do a thing for you. We hope to see you soon.

We hope.

To see.

You.

Soon.

Hope to Haunt at nine

I forgot to be clever
I forgot to be smart
But I remembered poor Lovecraft
And so that's half a start

He came to us from New England
He lived up on the East Coast
And the dream that he had in a big spooky house
Are the dreams that we remember most.

Saturday, October 19, 2013

We start casting at nine

Now, beneath that waxy moon,
Add garlic, clove, bay leaf, mandrake,
Then throw in a dash of tunes,
Add some dear friends. That's all it takes
And you will find out pretty soon
What kind of fun we all can make.

Saturday, October 12, 2013

"That boy ain't right". At nine.

Oh, the Kindred and the Garou can be friends...
Yes, the Kindred and the Garou can be friends
One is gonna bleed ya
And the other just might eat ya
But, the Kindred and the Garou can be friends!

Saturday, October 5, 2013

Dead and Undead Dance at Nine

Halloween! It's coming soon
With all its parties and parades
So, it's quite safe to presume
We'll have ghouls and other shades....

Saturday, September 28, 2013

Surprise! at nine

I didn't expect to play tonight, but I did.

Saturday, September 21, 2013

Feline at nine

"English is best, you can take it from me!"
Declared a cat named One-Two-Three.
To prove that it should be the case
He challenged another to a race.
The other cat, named Un-Deux-Trois
Thought his language should be the law
And to show the might of his dear Français,
He and his opponent, one fine day,
From England to France, both tried to swim.
In such a race, now, who should win?
One-Two-Three had French to thank
For un deux trois quatre cinq

Remember, it starts at nine

Last year, on this day,
I just didn't play
And I bet you aren't wondering why
But, tonight, if you're free
Come on down and join me.
There's a thing that I'm dying to try.

Saturday, September 7, 2013

Rumors of my return start at nine

I'm sorry that I went away
I'm happy that I'm back
And, tonight, the stuff I play
Should help to reflect that.

Saturday, August 24, 2013

By means of explanation at nine

Tonight I helped a buddy
Who'd fallen down on luck.
His apartment complex
Set upon him with a tow-truck.
We left early this evening
For the lot where his car was tossed
And about an hour later
We discovered we were lost

Saturday, August 17, 2013

UK beats at eight

Old UK beat bands
I think I heard it before
No, wait. Maybe not.

Saturday, August 10, 2013

This will make more sense at nine.

Then, after this world's weariness
Rises up, in warmth and light
We imitate the lioness
To settle still in silent night.

Saturday, August 3, 2013

Set some time aside at nine

I didn't really prepare
I hope that that is fine
I would have work on it
But I don't have the time.

Saturday, July 27, 2013

Miracles still happen at nine

I come across just so much stuff
Some is lousy; some is great!
But the good things, sure enough,
I like to collect and curate.
For just tonight, I'd like to try
A little Christmas in July

Saturday, July 20, 2013

I'll start early (8) to take you back

Garage bands from behind the iron curtain
It's sad none of these were ever big hits
With anyone, of which we can be certain,
Besides the proletariat.

Sunday, July 14, 2013

You had a what?

We had the one-year anniversary party for the Velvet's new location. For this event, there was a very Liberace-style (I thought) pool built. Well, I had to run with that.

Saturday, July 13, 2013

A decision is arrived at by eight.

I debated both sides for most of the day:
Should tonight's set be stuff, such as,
The un-danceable stuff I've been longing to play
Or should I just fall back on jazz?
I don't know why I make a fuss.
The choice is rather obvious.

Saturday, July 6, 2013

Bellies turn at nine

Two revolutions in two years!
(Once again, Tahrir Square starred).
But really, let's be honest here.
True democracy is HARD!

Saturday, June 29, 2013

We heat it up an hour early, at eight

The end of June is here at last
And now, with warmer weather
We wave good-bye to comforts past
And know it won't get better.
Or, to be more clear on just what I meant,
Come down, tip the club, and help pay the rent.

Saturday, June 22, 2013

The obvious enshrouds us at eight.

'Tis midsummer, the shortest night,
But first day of summer, so say we!
To celebrate this longest light
(And lack of creativity)
To Velvet's floor, you, I invite,
To mock my rather blatant theme.

Saturday, June 15, 2013

The weekend starts at 9.

Hey, I got a thing tonight
That I would like to try
Because...yeah. That's basically it.
Care to stop by?

Sunday, June 9, 2013

A weird pickup

Gypsy played early on Saturday night and asked if I'd take over from there. I said sure. I don't have time markers on this, but it was from 9:30 PM to about 4:00 AM.

Saturday, June 8, 2013

You won't see what hit you at nine

In Japan, Sengoko period,
Came the ninja, or shinobi
The stuff of legend! Methods myriad...
The silent hand of high decree.

So, for my first set of this June
I'm going to play some Ninja Tune.

Saturday, May 25, 2013

Blacker than black at nine

I griped about it last week
But that old complaint is back.
This time, the cat got hairs of white
On all my clothes of black.

Saturday, May 18, 2013

Whiter than white at nine

I've got a lot of complaints
But my special one this night
Is how my sweet tuxedo cat
Gets black hairs on my whites.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Another fill-in at seven

Filling in for Yoyo once again;
He promised to come back next week.
These pick-ups, every now and then,
Help keep things fresh, so to speak.

Saturday, May 11, 2013

Something to look with at nine

They look at you through everywhere
They peer through form and screen.
What do we know about these eyes?
Well, that's yet to be seen....

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Covering for Yoyo at seven

Did you have a good weekend?
This week has just begun.
I had a nice brunch yesterday
And got way too much sun.
(But only on my right arm. Very annoying.)

Saturday, May 4, 2013

Start the noise at eight

Happy birthday to me.
Tonight's set is noisy.
Due to two people flaking
We are starting early.

Slot might be free....

Saturday, April 27, 2013

Waving signs at nine

Cops on every corner, well alight
Freaking out the populace
Waiting for a nonexistent fight.
Our security has come to this.
Who knows what kind of chaos here
Has been born out by theater.

Saturday, April 20, 2013

Spark 'em up at nine

After this week, I can't EVEN
But, I won't take it laying down
So, instead, let's come out swingin'
And bring some dance music to town.

Saturday, April 13, 2013

We launch at nine!

After all the monkeys,
After all the dogs,
We finally sent a human up
To do a human's job.

With a simple way of speaking
And a boyish, goofy grin
Tonight's the night we've set aside
For dear old Gagarin.

Saturday, April 6, 2013

I demand tea and tissue at nine

Spring is here! And summer, soon
Vacation time is calling.
But for now, what spells our doom
Is all this goddamned pollen.

Saturday, March 30, 2013

Started early again, at eight!

The weather now, to warm from cool
(The cycle, once again, repeats)
And brings villains: Egyptian and Roman
Can we see ourselves reflected in these empires?
Passover's First. Find the afikoman!
Then Easter comes with all its treats
And after all that, APRIL FOOL!

Saturday, March 23, 2013

Eight mops for eight legs at eight

Time to organize files
Time to wipe down the screen
Those cables back there
Going every which where
All need to be bundled and cleaned

It's getting near time for the taxes
Sweaters, now washed, put away
Now that it's spring,
Cleaning up is the thing
So that's the music that I'll play

Saturday, March 16, 2013

Walk the catwalk at nine.

I thought, "How about just trombones?"
THE SLIDES OF MARCH! How very droll.
Well, I don't have those kids of stones
And that's a set that takes its toll.
Oh, but there's that fashion thing....
There's something I could pick at.
Are clothes a subject people sing?
It would seem so. So that is that.

Saturday, March 9, 2013

Pretty ladies at nine

Pretty's for flowers and boats on the water.
It's not for young women of this day and age.
Maybe something you say to your best friend's cute daughter
Or girls who you covet, well out of your range.
For International Women's Day
I've got sweet tunes I'm gonna play!

Monday, March 4, 2013

Pickup without notice

A quick little pick-up set at the club after Zoe finished. She's played some Macross Frontier, I figured I'd stay in a similar vein.

Saturday, March 2, 2013

Savor the moment at nine

There was a joke about spending cuts
But that would be in poor taste
To mock the fragile "who's and "what's"
On which those things are based
This sort of thing is not peanuts
(Yet, not the worst we've faced)

Monday, February 18, 2013

I have no idea

I did a pick-up set at the Velvet Sunday night. These are when there's no one on (try typing that five times fast) and so the stream is open. We had some great folks playing on Sunday; and, as I've been ill, I wasn't out doing the things I usually do. I got to listen in and I'm really stoked at the talent we've got over there.

Sorry that I don't have any time-markers on this. I think it was an hour-and-a-half before I sent a notice, but that's only because people showed up.

As it turns out, it's six-and-a-half hours. I think I started at 7:30 PM (SL time). Make of that what you will.

Saturday, February 16, 2013

It all leaves at nine. Oh, but it leaves.

And what tonight?
Post Valentine's, but a birthday!
And so, a theme combined thereof
Of vehicles that drive away
And leave behind what's left of love
And more than one shall have their say
Of that "regret" that they speak of.

Saturday, February 9, 2013

More than haiku at nine

no real theme tonight
things I like to listen to
you might like--surprise!

Saturday, January 26, 2013

Puttin' it together at nine.

Perhaps there are breasts you can ogle
Or a nice, round ass to pat
You're not looking at the sum total
Trust me, there's much more than that.

Saturday, January 19, 2013

Playing on the beach at nine.

Oh, hey, there you are
Now, before I forget
I had in mind a theme bizarre
For playing tonight's set

Saturday, January 12, 2013

It's a riddle! It's a Haiku! It's a show that starts @9!

Makes the world go round
Is the root of all evil
Can you name this thing?

Saturday, January 5, 2013

Got a thing goin' at nine

A new year, and so it goes
It seems to me much is the same
Coupled with polyphonic prose
Along with a well-known refrain.
