I'm setting up the board at eight.

Listen: Let's play this game I know
We'll pretend these berries are money
And we can buy clothes and fancy houses
But we won't have to pay for groceries or gas
Because we don't eat! And everyone can fly
It will never get hot or cold or rain
We'll travel the world and never worry about passports
And we'll never get sick and we'll stay young forever

It'll be fun.

I received a disconnection notice from my electric company yesterday (10/24/08)
and the post-mark on the envelope was 10/20/08.
The letter is dated 10/17/08
and is to notify me that my bill was due on 10/27/08
and is now past due.

I paid this bill on 10/11/08
and it posted on 10/14/08
but I admit this may be my fault,
because I overpaid
because I wasn't paying attention when I sent the payment
and read the last dollar amount on the bill
and I've always overpaid before with utilities.

And I'm thinking I should send a copy
to my state's attorney general,
and I've asked my bank
for a copy of the check;
but I've come to no harm yet
and my power is still on,
which is how I can talk about it.

They do say to disregard
if the payment has been made,
but I never thought I'd see
a preemptive strike from an electric company.

Mark Oliver Everett, who sings in the EELS, is actually the son of Hugh Everett, who proposed the parallel universes theory. They had a great special on NOVA about this. E told a story about when he found his father's body; it was one of the only moments of physical contact between them. I think it helps explain a lot of his lyrics.
